The Junior School

Our Junior Learning Centre consists of classes in Preparatory, Year 1 and Year 2. Parents and visitors frequently comment on the happy atmosphere and the stimulating environment which are evident on entering the Junior Learning Centre. The open design allows for flexible use of staff, teaching spaces and resources

Preparatory, Year 1 and Year 2

The Early Years initiative introduces children gradually to school expectations. Operating in small groups, children work at their own level on individualised programs. This helps to increase confidence through the successful completion of tasks.

The Literacy Program in the Junior Learning Centre encourages reading in context with spelling and writing skills introduced according to the developmental level of each child. An established Reading Recovery Program is available for any child who may require one-to-one assistance.

The Mathematics program focuses on the use of concrete materials and practical experiences, gradually introducing the concepts of formal operations and problem-solving.

Studies of Society and the Environment (SOSE) are integrated into the classroom program and cover a broad range of subject area.

Specialist Subjects

Specialist subjects are offered in the following areas:

Music - all children participate in music, learning the fundamentals of rhythm and sound.

Physical Education - including a Perceptual Motor Program. Children learn skills through games and participation.

LOTE (French) - the introduction of a language and culture other than English

Library -  lessons in the library ain to familiarise children with books and stimulate a desire for reading

Art - the creative stimulation of children includes fundamental skills, clay and craft activities

Student Welfare

Student Welfare is a priority at Camelot based on the premise that 'happy children learn!'. Our welfare programs operate from Prep to Year 6. They are pro-active and preventative and have proven to be very effective.

Communication and Parental Participation

At Camelot we place a high value on communication with parents as we recognise that the responsibility for guiding a child through the early developmental and educational stages is a shared one between home and school. Parents are encouraged to participate in their child's education by assisting with the literacy program, various classroom activities and on excursions.
