The Rubbish Free Lunch Challenge, a joint initiative of Sustainability Victoria and the Department of Education, encourages schools to enhance student understanding of how daily activities impact on the environment and provides information on the small steps everyone can take to reduce this impact. The Rubbish Free Lunch Challenge targets lunch rubbish and offers a curriculum-based solution to preventing rubbish and promoting healthy eating in schools. 2007 is the 10th anniversary Challenge and all schools across Victoria to participate.
Camelot Rise supports the Rubbish Free Lunch Challenge by participates in the Sustainability Victoria and the Department of Education program and by holding our own Rubbish Free Lunch Days through the year.
The non-organic food waste from each grade is measured daily. The grade withthe lowest total for the week is declared most successful and receives a class reward.
The Parents' Club have further supported the initiative by holding a lunch box drive to encourage the use of lunch containers thus minimising the use of cling wrap and external wrappers.
